Abstract
This research is driven by the prevelance of illegal gold mining activities (PETI) in Kuantan Tengah Sub-District, Kuantan Singingi Regency, Riau Province. PETI is an activity associated with numerous adverse effects on both the environment snd the health of local residents. Despite being aware of these negative consequences, the community exhibits indifference toward the impacts of PETI. This research aims to analyze the perspectives of the community in Kuantan Tengah Sub-District regarding PETI. A quantitative research approach was employed, utilizing questionnaires as the primary data collection instrument, which were distributed among residents of the sub-district. The findings indicate that the permissive attitude of the local community is primary influenced by economic factors and a lack of perceived obligation or responsibility to participate in efforts to curb PETI in the area.
