Abstract

A composite is a material made from a mixture of two or more which have stronger mechanical properties so that they can form a new material. With the waste from palm fruit fiber and palm oil shell powder, it can be used to make composites, by combining palm fruit fiber and palm oil shell powder with epoxy resin. To determine the mechanical properties of composites regarding impact strength and bending strength. Making composite materials using a molding method using glass molds, according to the composition: 20% palm fruit fiber: 30 palm oil shell powder: 50 epoxy resin, 25% palm oil fruit fiber: 25% palm oil shell powder: 50% epoxy resin , 30% palm fruit fiber: 20% palm kernel shell powder: 50% epoxy resin. From the results of impact and bending tests, it shows that the results of the greatest impact test strength are in the composition variation of 30% palm fruit fiber: 20% palm shell powder: 50% epoxy resin with a value of 381.896 j/mm2. Meanwhile, the lowest strength in the impact test was at a composition variation of 20% palm fruit fiber: 30 palm shell powder: 50 resin, namely 378.858 j/mm2. And the greatest strength results from the bending test were in the composition variation of 30% palm fruit fiber: 20% palm shell powder: 50% epoxy resin, namely 28.01 N/mm2, while the lowest strength was in the composition variation of 20% palm oil fruit fiber: 30 shell powder palm oil: 50 epoxy resin, which is 14.25 N/mm2.
