Abstract
Character Education Values in the Novel Pulang Pergi by Tere Liye. The current generation of youth has experienced a severe moral crisis, this can be seen in the many reports about the oppression of fellow students and the disrespect of teachers in schools. To improve the morale of the young generation and students today, character education is the answer, with the existence of character education for the younger generation and students can know the difference between right and wrong, as well as build a person with ethics and noble character. There are several ways to build students' character, one of which is by reading literary works such as novels. Novels have a storyline about life with characters who have different characters or traits so that they can make the younger generation and students feel entertained. In addition, in novels, the value of character education can also be found. This is in accordance with the function of literary works, namely as entertainment and education. Therefore, the researcher wants to know and discuss the value of character education that can be found in the novel Reciprocating by Tere Liye. The value of character education researched in the novel is categorized in 18 aspects, namely: (1) religious, (2) honest, (3) friendly/communicative, (4) love of peace, (5) tolerance, (6) discipline, (7) love of reading, (8) care for the environment, (9) hard work, (10) creative, (11) independent, (12) democracy, (13) curiosity, (14) national spirit, (15) social care, (16) responsibility, (17) love for the homeland, and (18) to appreciate achievements. The purpose of this research is to describe, analyze, and interpret the value of character education that has been found in the novel Reciprocating by Tere Liye. The formulation of the problem in this study is: What is the value of character education contained in the novel Reciprocating by Tere Liye? This study uses a descriptive analytical method, because this method takes problems or focuses attention on problems as they are when the research is carried out, so that the results of the research can be presented systematically, descriptively and in detail then processed and analyzed to draw conclusions. The data collection technique used is a hermeneutic technique which is a technique of reading, recording and summarizing. The number of data found was 360 data. The results of the study show that the character education value in the novel Pulang Pergi by Tere Liye has more character education value in the friendly/communicative aspect and less character education value of love for the homeland.
