Abstract

This study was motivated by academic stress of grade XI students in learning Islamic Studies at SMA 14 Pekanbaru. This was indicated by some students who lacked self-confidence in the learning process with several symptoms including: heavy workload, pressure to excel, competition with classmates, and concerns about academics and careers. Because academic stress can make someone face the pressure and demands that occur in the academic field. This was a quantitative correlational study. The population of the study consisted of students from class XI A, XI B, XI C, and XI D totaling 72 respondents. The sample was taken by saturated sampling, which means a total of 72 students, and the questionnaire was used to collect data. The results of the study showed that the hypothesis of the relationship between adaptation and social support on students' academic stress was accepted with a significance value of 0.000. The magnitude of the relationship between adaptation and social support on students' academic stress was quite strong at 0.561 or 56.1%. It can be predicted that if the relationship between adaptation and support is reduced, it will contribute to reducing students' academic stress by 0.749 or 74.9%. So it can be concluded that the results of the study showed that there was a relationship between adaptation and social support on students’ academic stress (grade XI) in learning Islamic Studies at SMA 14 Pekanbaru.
