Abstract
In the automotive world, technological advances continue to be made every day. Most people have two-wheeled or four-wheeled vehicles. When you use a car, fuel burns in the cylinders and heat is generated in the engine. If not cooled properly, this heat will change the mechanical properties and shape of engine parts. Changing the characteristics or component parts of the machine will cause component failure and shorten the service life of the machine. The engine temperature must be stabilized by the cooling system to produce optimal engine performance. There are 2 types of cooling systems in vehicles, water cooling systems and air cooling systems. The water cooling system generally aims to absorb some of the engine heat generated by the combustion process in the cylinder. In principle, it can be said that this system works based on forced convection, because the fluid circulates continuously (continuously) to absorb engine heat. For an air cooling system, the propagation process is carried out using fins which function to increase the heat transfer area. This heat is absorbed by circulating outside air with a temperature lower than the temperature of the cooling fins. Air cooling like this is often found on motorbikes or small capacity machines. From the results of tests that have been carried out regarding the influence of coolant type and variations in fan type on the effectiveness of the cooling system on the Isuzu Panther Diesel Engine, the following conclusions can be drawn as follows. The use of different types of coolant and variations in the number of fan blades has an influence on the effectiveness of the cooling system. Where machines that use coolant with a higher boiling point and a larger number of fan blades have better results. The best radiator effectiveness is found in the use of coolant C with a boiling point of 126 and a fan with 8 blades. Where the highest heat transfer rate of the radiator fluid is 17247.75 W, the highest overall heat transfer coefficient is 1413.93 W/m2. , the highest maximum heat transfer rate of the radiator fluid is 154036.84 W, and the highest radiator effectiveness is 0.546.
