Abstract

Fuel sourced from palm fiber and shells is known as biomass fuel, also known as phytomass which is renewable energy. This research aims to analyze the performance of a water pipe boiler with a capacity of 35 tons of steam/hour fueled by palm fiber and shells. In this research, a fuel ratio of 70% fiber and 30% shell was used with a boiler with a capacity of 35 tons of steam/hour and the type of boiler was a water pipe boiler. The results of the boiler performance research referring to recorded operational data are that the high thermal efficiency of the boiler is 87.681%, the calorific value of the fuel mixture of 70% fiber and 30% palm shells is 3654.003 kcal/kg and the high heat produced by burning the fuel is 28,178 ,127.4 kcal/hour. The amount of boiler fuel consumption is based on field data for a steam capacity of 35,000 kg/hour for palm fiber and shells of 9000 kg/hour. Meanwhile, theoretically, for a steam capacity of 35,000 kg/hour, 8,161,511 kg/hour of palm fiber and shell fuel will be needed. This phenomenon occurs in boiler components before and after increasing fuel requirements, there is a significant difference in the increase in boiler fuel requirements.
