Abstract
Critical thinking skills are complex skills that must be possessed by every student in order to achieve success and success in their education. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the mind mapping method in improving students' critical thinking skills in learning Akidah Akhlak in class VIII-3 SMP Babussalam Pekanbaru. This study uses a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach with descriptive statistical analysis of the percentage formula. Data were collected through written tests, observations of student activities, and assessments of critical thinking skills. The results of this study indicate an increase in students' critical thinking skills in each cycle. This is indicated by the percentage obtained from the results of observations of student activities and test questions given in each cycle. In cycle I, the value of student activity was 61.36%, while in cycle II it increased to 85.22% (very effective category). In addition, teacher activity also increased from 67.14% in cycle I to 81.90% in cycle II (very effective category). The results of the study indicate that the mind mapping method can improve students' critical thinking skills in learning akidah akhlak, so it can be used as an alternative in improving the quality of learning.
