Abstract

Research had been conducted on learning concentration, but none had explored in detail the application of the drill method in the teaching of Qur'an and Hadith. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of the drill method on students' learning concentration at the Islamic Junior High School Bin Dahlan Foundation, located in Sungai Batang Subdistrict, Indragiri Hilir Regency. Using a quantitative approach with a correlational method, the research was carried out over four months and involved 72 students as the sample. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive analysis and simple linear regression. The results showed that the teachers’ mastery at the Islamic Junior High School Bin Dahlan Foundation was very strong. Students’ perception of the drill method reached 81%, indicating a very strong level of mastery. Meanwhile, the level of students’ concentration in the Qur'an and Hadith subject was 78%, which fell into the strong category. ANOVA analysis showed a significance value of 0.0 (P < 0.5), supporting the hypothesis that there was a significant influence between the drill method and learning concentration. The drill method showed a considerable effect of 0.460 or 46%, which was considered quite strong. The application of the drill method could increase learning concentration by up to 61.5%; conversely, if not applied, students’ concentration could decrease by the same percentage. It was concluded that the drill method had a positive effect on students’ learning concentration at the Islamic Junior High School Bin Dahlan Foundation. This study provided important implications for the development of students’ concentration in the learning of Qur'an and Hadith across all Islamic Junior High Schools in Indonesia.
