Abstract

This research was motivated by the low level of student discipline at YLPI Junior High School Perhentian Marpoyan Pekanbaru. In the learning process, students needed to have a good school environment. A good school environment during the learning process could help shape student discipline. The school environment included physical, social, and academic aspects that could influence student behavior in following rules and norms. The research problem was how much the school environment influenced in improving discipline of Grade VII students at YLPI Junior High School Perhentian Marpoyan Pekanbaru. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of school environment on improving the discipline of Grade VII students at YLPI Junior High School Perhentian Marpoyan Pekanbaru. This study used a quantitative correlational method. The population of this research consisted of Grade VII students. Sampling was conducted using a saturated sampling technique, in which the entire population—74 students—was taken as the sample. Data were collected through questionnaires and documentation. The results of the study showed that the hypothesis regarding the influence of the school environment on student discipline was accepted, with a significance value of 0.000. The influence of the school environment on student discipline was 0.289 or 28.9%, categorized as “low.” The level of correlation between the school environment and student discipline was 0.538 or 53.8%, categorized as “moderately high.” The results of this research indicated that if the school environment was improved to be better, more comfortable, and conducive, it could contribute to an increase in student discipline at YLPI Junior High School Perhentian Marpoyan Pekanbaru by 72.8%. Therefore, it could be concluded that there was an influence of school environment on improving discipline of Grade VII students at YLPI Junior High School Perhentian Marpoyan Pekanbaru.
