Abstract

Farming Development Strategy in Pekanbaru City, Riau Province. Guidance of Mr. Heriyanto, SP., M.Sc. The increasing need for food has caused alternative food to be developed, one of which is the porang plant. This research aims to determine and analyze: (1) Characteristics of farmers and the profile of porang farming, (2) Porang farming, (3) Strategy for developing porang farming in Pekanbaru City. The method used in this research is a survey method. The sample in this research was 20 porang farmers in Pekanbaru City. The analytical method used consists of quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis, SWOT analysis and QSPM. The results of this research show that the average age characteristics of porang farmers in Pekanbaru City is 50 years, the average education level is 11 years (equivalent to high school level), the average farming experience is 3 years and the average number of family dependents is 3 people. The porang farming profile includes an average land area of ??2.95 Ha with own land ownership status. Porang farming is entirely sourced from the farmers themselves (personal capital) without any assistance from other parties. The labor used comes from within the family and outside the family. Based on farming analysis, the total production costs incurred by porang farming is IDR. 199,248,804/MT, total production of 82,080.00 Kg/MT with the selling price of porang tubers Rp. 3,500.00/Kg, resulting in a gross income of Rp. 287,280,000/MT, net income of Rp. 88,031,196/MT and the farming efficiency is 1.45, then the porang farming business is feasible to run. Based on the analysis, 11 alternative strategies were obtained that can be used to develop porang farming in Pekanbaru City. The strategy that can be implemented is the most important one with the highest score is utilizing cooperation with partnerships considering that farmers are experienced and have high motivation and the strategy with the lowest score is studying. and expanding market information regarding prevailing prices.
