Abstract

This study was motivated by the problem of students’ morals in grade IX at SMP IT Al-Mishbah Riau. The problem of declining students’ morals was known from several signs such as: lack of discipline, it could be seen from several students who arrived late, did not tuck their shirts into their pants, had messy hair, wore clothes and school supplies that did not comply with the rules; Lack of honesty, it could be seen when the students answered the tests given by the teachers; Lack of politeness towards teachers such as often swearing, pointing with the left hand, leaving the classroom without permission and so on. So, the teachers needed to improve the morals of these students. This study aimed to investigate the influence of character education on students’ morals in grade IX at SMP IT AlMishbah Riau. This was a quantitative study with a correlational approach. The population of the study consisted of 38 students and the sample was taken by the saturated sampling technique, which means that all population was the sample. The data collection techniques of the study were questionnaires and documentation. From the results of the hypothesis testing with a value of F = 492.933 and a significance value of 0.000, it can be interpreted that there was an influence of character education on students’ morals in grade IX at SMP IT AlMishbah Riau. The magnitude of the influence in the summary table showed that an R-Squared value of 0.932 or 93.2%, meaning that the students’ morals were influenced by the family environment by 93.2%. In conclusion, the results of the study showed that there was an influence of character education on students’ morals in grade IX at SMP IT Al-Mishbah Riau.
