Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of Islamic Studies, especially memorizing the Quran for every child. At this time, many children do not know and are unable to memorize the Quran well, including children with special needs due to physical, psychological, cognitive or social conditions. It means that the children with special needs require more attention in guidance on memorizing the Quran. Therefore, it is important for Islamic Studies teachers in improving the ability to memorize the Quran in children with special needs at SDIP YLPI. The problem formulation of the study was the roles of Islamic Studies teachers in improving the ability to memorize the Quran in children with special needs at SDIP YLPI of Pekanbaru City. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects of the study were Islamic Studies teachers at SDIP YLPI of Pekanbaru City. The data collection techniques of the study were observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the study showed that the roles of Islamic Studies teachers at SDIP YLPI in improving the ability to memorize the Quran in children with special needs by providing facilitators, guiding the children in memorizing the Quran, providing motivation for children with special needs, providing appropriate learning models for memorizing the Quran, and helping them how to recite the Quran properly.
