Abstract

This study aimed to determine the influence of extrinsic motivation on students' learning interest in Fiqh subject for Grade VII at Miftahul Hidayah Islamic Junior High School Pekanbaru. The extrinsic motivation referred to factors such as rewards, parental support, learning environment, and teachers’ teaching methods. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 97 Grade VII students as respondents. The results of the study showed a positive and significant relationship between extrinsic motivation and students' learning interest. Parental support and teachers’ teaching methods were the most influential elements in increasing students' interest in learning. Data analysis revealed a coefficient of determination (R Square) value of 18.9%, indicating that extrinsic motivation contributed 18.9% to students' learning interest, while the remaining 81.1% was influenced by other factors. This study confirmed that appropriate external motivation could help enhance students’ learning interest, especially in the Fiqh subject. The implication is that educators and parents were expected to provide continuous support to keep students more motivated in the learning process.
