Abstract
Cultivation of watermelon plants in Indonesia is still limited to meet the domestic market. But it is also possible that we can compete in the international market. This research aims to: (1) Identify the characteristics of farmers and the profile of watermelon farming in Binawidya District, (2) Understand the use of production factors, land area and watermelon cultivation techniques in Binawidya District, and (3) Analyze production costs, production, prices, income and efficiency of watermelon farming in Binawidya District. This research was carried out for 6 (six) months starting from April to September 2023. The method used in this research was a survey method. Farmer respondents were taken by census as many as 22 watermelon farmers. The analysis used is qualitative and quantitative descriptive methods. The research results show: the average age is in the productive age group (41 years), the education level is still low at 9.86 years (junior high school), the farmer has 14 years of experience, the average number of family dependents is 2 people. The business profile obtained is that the average land area is 1.57 ha, the number of working days is 24.15 HOK/ha, production is 24,490.91 kg/MT, and productivity is 15,509.32 kg/ha/MT. The watermelon cultivation technology applied by farmers is generally almost in accordance with theoretical recommendations. Use of production factors per hectare: 2.429,92 of seeds, 62.03 kg of mulch, 3,777.27 kg of manure, 278.48 kg of dolomite, 49.82 kg of Za, 99.70 kg of NPK, 34.92 kg of KCL, 34.92 kg of bayfolan 1.97 liters, protectant 0.86 liters, gandasil 0.96 liters, anthracol 1.47 kg and Dupont 1.07 kg. The production costs of watermelon farming in Binawidya District are IDR 14,386,145/ha/MT, gross income is IDR 54,282,614/ha/MT, while net income is IDR 39,962,353/ha/MT, and RCR (Revenue Cost Ratio) of 3.80, which means that watermelon farming in Binawidya District is profitable and worth pursuing.
