Abstract

This research aims to identify and eliminate waste in the Riau Islamic University Library by applying lean management principles, in order to support the sustainability of the university. The energy wastage that occurs is mainly caused by computers, lights, air conditioning, elevators, storage, and services. This research highlights the relevance of applying lean management principles in formulating strategies to reduce wastage. Some of the proposed strategies include new user orientation, optimizing the digitization system, training and raising staff awareness, improving supervision and monitoring, energy use and using automation systems as well as weeding out unused and obsolete books. By applying lean management principles, it is expected to achieve better performance efficiency, operational cost savings, and support the sustainability of the campus environment.
