Abstract

Children as the next generation of the nation have the right to protection and proper education. However, in reality many children are in conflict with the law, including becoming perpetrators of sexual abuse. Sexual abuse cases committed by children are a serious concern in the juvenile criminal justice system in Indonesia. The main problem in this research that will be discussed is how the role of the Public Prosecutor in prosecuting children as perpetrators of sexual abuse in the jurisdiction of the Pekanbaru District Attorney's Office and what are the obstacles of the Public Prosecutor in prosecuting children as perpetrators of sexual abuse in the jurisdiction of the Pekanbaru District Attorney's Office. So that the purpose of this study is to analyze the role of the Public Prosecutor in prosecuting children as perpetrators of sexual abuse in the jurisdiction of the Pekanbaru District Attorney's Office and identify the obstacles faced in prosecuting children as perpetrators of sexual abuse. This research uses an empirical juridical method with a qualitative approach, which involves interviews through direct observation with the Head of the General Crime Section, the Head of the Execution and Examination Prosecution Sub-Section, and the Public Prosecutor of the Pekanbaru District Attorney's Office as well as literature review regarding the role of public prosecutors in prosecuting children. The results showed that the Public Prosecutor has an important role in conducting prosecutions against children.
