Abstract

Theft is an act of taking goods in whole or in part that belong to another person unlawfully. The act of theft itself is classified into several categories, namely petty theft, aggravated theft, violent theft, and motor vehicle theft. The crime that often occurs is theft by weighting which becomes a theft in certain ways so that it is more severe, proving the elements of the crime of theft by weighting must begin by proving theft in its main form. So that the provision of criminal sanctions against the crime of theft with a heavier weight than the usual form of theft. The main problem in this study is what are the factors that cause the crime of theft by weighting in the jurisdiction of the Pekanbaru Police and how to deal with the crime of weighting theft in the jurisdiction of the Pekanbaru Police. The research carried out is the empirical legal research method using research or field observations by way of direct surveys to the field, to collect primary data and secondary data obtained from respondents either through questionnaires or interviews to be used as data or information as material in writing this research . Based on the research results, it can be understood that there are several factors that cause a person to repeat a crime including economic factors, narcotics addiction factors, environmental factors, and societal factors. So that various countermeasures can be carried out against the perpetrators of the crime of theft by weighting such as pre-emptive, preventive and repressive efforts.
