Abstract

This research is entitled "Application of chicken manure fertilizer and NPK 16: 16: 16 on the growth of areca nut (Areca catechu L.)" seeds. The research was carried out at the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Riau Islamic University, Pekanbaru from June to September 2023. This research aims to determine the main and interaction effects of applying chicken manure and NPK 16: 16: 16 fertilizer on the growth of areca nut (Areca catechu L.) seedlings. ). This research used a factorial Completely Randomized Design consisting of 2 factors. The first factor is chicken manure fertilizer which consists of 4 treatment levels, namely: 0; 75; 150 and 225 g per polybag. The second factor is the dose of NPK 16:16:16 which consists of 4 treatment levels, namely: 0; 7.5; 15 and 22.5 g per polybag. Each treatment consisted of 3 replications so there were 48 experimental units. The parameters observed were plant height, number of leaf sheaths, longest midrib length, stem diameter, longest root length, root volume and root crown ratio. The data was analyzed statistically and continued with the honest real difference test (BNJ) at the 5% level. The results showed that the interaction effect of chicken manure fertilizer and NPK 16:16:16 had a significant effect on the parameters of plant height, longest frond length, root length, root volume and root crown ratio. The effect of chicken manure fertilizer had a significant effect on all observation parameters with the best treatment being at a dose of 225 g per polybag. The main effect of NPK 16:16:16 had a significant effect on all observation parameters with the best treatment being at a dose of 7.5 g per polybag.
