Abstract

This research aims to determine the interaction effect as well as the main effect of the number of leaves on the scion and the age of the rootstock on the propagation of red durian plants using the shoot grafting method. This research was carried out at the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Riau Islamic University, Pekanbaru from November 2022 to June 2023. This research used a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of two factors. The first factor is the number of leaves on the scion which consists of 4 treatment levels, namely: no leaves, 2, 4 and 6 leaves. The second factor is the age of the rootstock which consists of 4 treatment levels, namely: 1, 2, 3 and 4 months. Each treatment consisted of 3 replications so there were 48 experimental units. The parameters observed were increase in plant height, increase in rootstock diameter, age at bud break, scion length, number of side shoots and percentage of successful grafting. The data was analyzed statistically and continued with the honest real difference test (BNJ) at the 5% level. The results showed that the interaction effect of the number of leaves on the scion and the age of the rootstock was significantly different on the parameters of increase in plant height, increase in diameter of the rootstock, age at bud break and number of side shoots. The main effect of the number of leaves on the scion was significantly different on all observation parameters with the best treatment being the number of leaves on the scion with 2 leaves. The main effect of rootstock age was significantly different on all observation parameters with the best treatment being found at 4 months of rootstock age.
