Abstract

In this modern era, humans cannot be separated from technology. Technology can help people’s daily work to create effectiveness in both time and energy, one of which is Windows products because modernity is what makes Windows products more and more sophisticated day by day. It has upgrades and advanced features, but the Windows program features and upgrades are not cheap, the original upgrade price alone can cost around IDR 2,000,000. Therefore, many people look for shortcuts by buying or providing pirated Windows products that have prices that do not match the original price and do not have a direct license from Microsoft as the copyright holder, this is contrary to the protection of Intellectual Property Rights contained in the law. Number 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright and is located in Pekanbaru City. The main problem in this research is what factors cause the high rate of piracy of Windows products in the city of Pekanbaru and what legal efforts have been taken to prevent piracy? The research method used in this research is seen from the type of research, this research is included in Empirical Legal research. Meanwhile, based on its nature, this research is analytical descriptive research. Analytical Descriptive research. From the results of this research it can be concluded that the level of public awareness of intellectual property rights is still very low so that piracy can still be tolerated in society because piracy itself can provide the right price for the purchasing power of people in the city of Pekanbaru.
