Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the interaction of NPK 16:16:16 fertilizer and MSG on the growth and production of cayenne pepper plants on PMK soil. This research was carried out in the experimental garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Riau Islamic University, for five months from November 2022 to March 2023. The design used was a Completely Randomized Factorial Design consisting of two factors. The first factor is NPK 16:16:16 consisting of 5 levels, namely 5 g, 10 g, 15 g, 20 g, 25 g per plant and the second factor is MSG consisting of 4 levels, namely without treatment, 3 g, 6 g, 9 g per plant. The parameters observed were plant height, flowering age, harvest age, number of productive branches, number of fruit per plant, weight of fruit per plant, and number of remaining fruit. The observation data was analyzed statistically and continued with a further Honest Significant Difference (BNJ) test at the 5% level. The research results showed that the influence of NPK 16:16:16 and Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) had a significant effect on the observation parameters of flowering age, harvest age, number of productive branches, number of fruit per plant, weight of fruit per plant and number of remaining fruit. The main effect of NPK 16:16:16 had a real influence on all observation parameters, with the best treatment being 25 g/plant. The main effect of monosodium glutamate (MSG) had a significant effect on all observed parameters, with the best treatment being 9 g/plant.
