Abstract
This study aims to explore the role of teachers in fostering critical thinking skills of students in IPAS (Natural and Social Sciences) learning at SD Negeri 21 Pekanbaru. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data collection techniques were conducted through interviews, observation, and documentation, with thematic analysis techniques including data coding, theme grouping, and theme interpretation. The results showed that teachers have an important role in fostering students' critical thinking skills through various strategies such as creating a conducive learning environment, guiding understanding of the context of the material, practicing problem identification, encouraging questions and discussions, guiding the drawing of conclusions, using learning methods that encourage critical thinking, and providing constructive feedback. Despite the challenges, teachers continue to innovate by utilizing supporting factors such as relevant curriculum, school culture that supports active and innovative learning, and the use of technology in learning. The findings of this study provide input for teachers and education stakeholders in designing effective learning to foster critical thinking skills in primary schools.
