Abstract

Shrimp farming is one of the fisheries sectors that has high economic potential. However, the manual water quality monitoring process is a major obstacle in improving the efficiency of aquaculture. Manual monitoring requires a lot of labor, is prone to human error, and is less efficient in detecting changes in pond environmental conditions. Therefore, this research develops an Internet of Things (IoT)-based water quality monitoring system to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of real-time monitoring of shrimp pond water quality. The developed system uses several main sensors, namely temperature sensor (DS18B20), pH sensor, salinity sensor (TDS), turbidity sensor, and dissolved oxygen sensor (DO). The data obtained from the sensors is sent to the server via the internet network and displayed on the monitoring website. In addition, the system is also equipped with Telegram notifications that provide alerts if there are significant changes in water quality parameters. The test results show that this system is able to monitor water quality accurately and in real-time, thus reducing dependence on manual labor. The data stored in the database can also be used for further analysis to improve pond management. With this system, it is expected that pond managers can respond to environmental changes more quickly and increase the productivity of shrimp farming.
