Abstract

In the field of education, student attendance recording is a crucial aspect of academic evaluation. However, manual attendance systems are often prone to errors and data manipulation. Therefore, this research aims to develop a Web-Based Student Attendance System Prototype that utilizes fingerprint sensors as the primary authentication method, supported by artificial intelligence (AI)-based validation to enhance accuracy and security. The system operates by scanning students' fingerprints using a fingerprint sensor and matching the data with information stored in the database. The AI-based validation process allows the system to detect and recognize fingerprint patterns more accurately, even in cases where fingerprints undergo slight changes due to injuries or environmental factors. The entire attendance process is conducted automatically and in real time, and can be accessed via a web-based platform, facilitating attendance data management for academic staff. The testing results indicate that the system can identify and match students' fingerprint data with a high degree of accuracy. The integration of AI also improves the system’s ability to reduce identification errors and prevent potential fraud, such as the use of fake fingerprints. Therefore, this system can serve as an innovative solution to enhance the efficiency and transparency of student attendance recording in academic environments.
