Abstract

The crime of abuse is included in crimes against body parts which are a series of violent acts that can cause victims to suffer various kinds of suffering that will befall the victim's physical condition and the victim's psychological condition will also be disturbed due to certain causes. However, with this, it does not make Indonesia a country that will be free from criminal cases, crimes such as abuse often occur in society. Because of the great losses experienced by the victims, it is the obligation of law enforcement officers, especially the Police, to handle criminal acts of abuse that result in death seriously and fairly. The main problem in this study is the factors causing abuse resulting in death and knowing the police's efforts in dealing with abuse resulting in death in the jurisdiction of the Riau Police Criminal Investigation Directorate. The research conducted by the author is an empirical legal research method using observation research or field research by means of direct surveys in the field to collect primary and secondary data obtained from respondents through interviews to be used as data or information used as material in writing this research. Based on the research results, it can be understood that the crime of assault resulting in death occurred due to several factors, namely internal factors within the perpetrator, namely age, personality, economy, emotions and education. While external factors, namely the place of crime, family, time of crime and environment. Therefore, the role of the Police in overcoming the crime of assault resulting in death in the preventive field is in the form of increasing supervision, guidance and counseling, while the role of the Police in the repressive field is to conduct investigations and inquiries, the results of which will be submitted to the Public Prosecutor for prosecution in court.
