Abstract
The data on the rise of the LGBT community in Indonesia shows that the group continues to grow, especially in the cities of Bali, Jakarta, Surabaya and Yogyakarta. Research finds that more and more individuals are feeling confident to openly acknowledge their identity. This research intends to explore the extent to which the lgbt polemic has touched the lives of Indonesians by taking data from one of the most frequently used social media, Twitter. The data will then go through the stages of sentiment analysis research to find and compare the accuracy values of the Naïve Bayes and Support Vector Machine methods. The results show that Indonesian people tend to respond positively to the lgbt polemic with Naive Bayes method performance that is more effective when using SMOTE while SVM performance is more effective when not using SMOTE.
