Abstract

The traditional malemang dance is a dance that originated from Penaga Village, Bintan Regency, Riau Islands Province. The purpose of this study is to analyze the Malemang Traditional Dance in Sanggar Dang Merdu, Penaga Village, Bintan Regency, Riau Islands Province, so that it can be known by the wider community. This study uses a descriptive research method of analysis with a qualitative approach. The data collection techniques used were non-participant observation, structured interviews, and documentation. The Malemang traditional dance has elements of dance contained in it in accordance with the theory, namely movement, floor design, top design, music, dynamics, group composition, theme, costumes, makeup, and staging. The traditional dance of malemang is a traditional dance that has existed since the 12th century during the Malay Kingdom of Kara City. This dance used to function as the entertainment of the kings, and today this dance is entertainment for the local people. The Malemang traditional dance has four types of movements, namely lemang movement, kampai island host movement, malemang movement, and tandak movement. The floor design used is straight lines and curved lines. The top design uses flat, in-vertical, pure, static, straight, curved, angular, spiral, high, medium, low, and asymmetrical designs. The musical instruments used are the long drum, violin, bebano, and gong. The dramatic design used is a single cone dramatic design. The dynamics in this dance consist of changes in the tempo of movement, the tempo of the music, the level of movement, and the volume of the movement. The composition of the groups used is unison design, balanced design, and alternate design. This dance contains a carefree and joyful theme as an entertainment medium. The costume used is a pair of Malay baju kurung , with natural makeup. The lighting in this dance uses neutral light. Staging in this dance uses an arena stage.
