Abstract

Palm oil fruit theft is one form of crime that often occurs in plantation areas, especially at PT. Perkebunan Nusantara IV Regional III Jurisdiction of Tanjung Medan Police (PUJUD) Rokan Hilir. A criminological review of palm oil fruit theft is important to understand the causal factors, its impact on society and the company, and the steps that can be taken to overcome the problem. This study aims to analyze the factors that drive palm oil fruit theft and provide recommendations based on a criminological perspective. The main problems in this study that will be discussed are what are the factors that cause palm oil fruit theft at PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV Regional III in the Jurisdiction of Tanjung Medan Police (PUJUD) Rokan Hillir and How to overcome palm oil fruit theft at PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV Regional III Jurisdiction of Tanjung Medan Police (PUJUD) Rokan Hillir, so that the purpose of this study is to find out the results of the formulation of the problems in this study. This study uses an empirical legal method with a qualitative approach. involving interviews with the company's legal staff, police officers and secondary data collection from legal documents and related police reports. The results of the study indicate that from a criminological perspective, palm oil theft can be seen as a result of social and economic inequality that occurs in society. Injustice in the distribution of welfare and employment opportunities, as well as low levels of education and legal awareness, are factors that worsen the situation. In addition, weak supervision and law enforcement in plantation areas also provide space for criminals to act without fear of being caught. The limited use of technology and the less than optimal number of security personnel also become obstacles in preventing and overcoming this theft. As a solution, a more holistic approach is needed to overcome the problem of palm oil theft. Companies must improve supervision by utilizing technology and increase cooperation with the police to tighten patrols and responses to criminal acts. Empowering the economy of the surrounding community by providing skills training and creating better job opportunities is also an important step to reduce their dependence on illegal activities. In addition, education about the impact of theft on the economy and the sustainability of the palm oil industry needs to be carried out to build legal and moral awareness among the community.
