Abstract

PT. Riau Andalan Pulp & Paper is one of the largest paper producers in Asia, manufacturing pulp, paper, and rayon. This study was conducted on a Full Condensing Steam Turbine that has been in operation since 1993. The efficiency of the steam turbine is influenced by the pressure and temperature of superheated steam, making it essential to analyze the impact of these two factors on efficiency, as well as the relationship between total work and turbine efficiency. Based on operational data, the average thermal efficiency over seven days reached 38%. The combination of the highest superheated steam temperature of 495°C and pressure of 85 Bar resulted in optimal efficiency of 39.07%, while the lowest efficiency of 37.95% occurred at a pressure of 70 Bar and a temperature of 470°C. The relationship between total (net) work and thermal efficiency showed a linear increase, with the highest efficiency of 39.07% achieved at a net work of 1236.76 kJ/kg. The study results indicate that the efficiency of the steam turbine at Riau Prima Energi remains in the good category. Increasing the pressure and temperature of superheated steam tends to enhance the thermal efficiency of the steam turbine. Additionally, thermal efficiency also increases with the rise in the net work value of the steam turbine. This underscores the importance of controlling operational parameters to maintain turbine performance
