Abstract

Batik is an Indonesian cultural heritage that holds high artistic and economic value. One of the crucial stages in the batik-making process is wax removal, which is often time-consuming, labor-intensive, and poses high risks, such as injuries from hot water. These challenges hinder the efficiency and production capacity of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This study aims to design an effective, efficient, and safe wax removal machine. The design process includes problem identification, machine design, simulation, and analysis using Autodesk Inventor. The machine consists of key components such as a 1 HP electric motor, shaft, chain, gears, boiling tank, and an LPG-fueled heater. Simulations indicate a displacement of 0.170 mm and a Von Mises stress of 253.1 MPa, with a safety factor of 15, meeting safety standards. This machine increases production capacity by up to 30% compared to the manual method, reduces worker fatigue, and minimizes injury risks. The design is practical, utilizes optimal materials, and has an affordable production cost, making it suitable for SMEs. By improving efficiency, safety, and comfort, this machine is expected to be an innovative solution to support the growth of the batik craft industry in Indonesia.
