Abstract

In Indonesia, the increasing number of motorized vehicles, especially motorcycles, has led to an increase in demand for energy, especially fossil fuels, which are increasingly limited and non-renewable. While oil-fueled vehicles continue to dominate the transportation industry, the number of two-wheeled vehicles in Indonesia reached 120 million in 2021. This number of cars increases fuel consumption, which is not comparable to petroleum production. To overcome this problem, various technologies that increase fuel efficiency and reduce exhaust emissions have been developed. However, lack of resources hinders their implementation. The purpose of this study is to find other ways to save fossil fuels and reduce their impact on the environment through more environmentally friendly technologies. The use of hydrogen gas (HHO) as a co-fuel is one promising technology. The use of HHO devices in vehicles can increase engine power, reduce pollution, and save fuel. The addition of NaOH to the Pertalite + HHO fuel mixture resulted in a decrease in fuel consumption of 2.25% to 25.85%, as well as an increase in thermal efficiency and effective pressure. The octane value of the fuel increases from 90 to 105, optimizing combustion, increasing engine torque and power by 25.4% and 25.85%. In addition, more complete combustion reduces carbon and pollution, making the engine more environmentally friendly and cleaner.
