Abstract

The animal feed chopper is a tool used to chop various animal feed needs, especially cattle needs. Providing feed from oil palm plantations has the potential to develop the cattle population in Indonesia because oil palm fronds can be used as an alternative animal feed because they contain crude fiber and protein. The manufacture of this animal feed chopper aims to obtain a tool that can process oil palm fronds into animal feed in a short time to get a lot of results. It is hoped that this tool can be a breakthrough for farmers who still use manual methods using sickles or machetes for chopping. The design process for this animal feed chopper is carried out through the planning stages and explanation of functions and making tool design drawings. The component parts analyzed are the construction of the tool frame, power and torque that occurs on the shaft. The manufacture of this tool goes through the process of cutting, welding, sanding, Drilling, filling and painting. in making the tool, adjust the materials and components available on the market so as not to complicate the manufacturing process. From the design results, a livestock feed chopper was obtained that can process oil palm fronds with a production capacity of 528 Kg / hour. The driving source of this tool is an 8 Hp gasoline engine with a rotation of 3000 Rpm, has 4 rotating blades, with a pulley and V-belt transmission system, a 76.2 mm motor pulley, a 127 mm main shaft pulley with a V-belt used A-48. The frame construction uses 50 × 50 × 5 mm St-42 angle iron and the hopper uses 5 mm St-42 steel plate. The chopped results obtained from this tool are 0.6 - 1 cm in size.
