Abstract

Fuel cell technology always provides clean, efficient and reliable electrical energy for almost any device that requires electrical energy. Fuel cells are used in a variety of portable, stationary and transportation applications, ranging from battery chargers, home heaters, and car electrics. Fuel cells are energy conversion devices that are suitable for application as alternative energy for modern vehicles as green technology. Bipolar plates are the main components in fuel cell stacks. This plate is made of graphite or metal and separates each cell separately. Bipolar plates are very flat components with channels applied to the surface of the plate. This study was conducted to determine the results of the Analysis of the thickness of graphite coating on stainless steel plates using the spray method as a conductor plate on electrical conductivity, microstructure and bending strength, the aim is to obtain the value of the bipolar plate obtained from data collection on electrical conductivity, microstructure observations and bending strength of the conductor plate surface is expected to be a reference in the development of energy materials in the future. Conductor plates with a composition of KG 50% and RE 50% with 6 spraying variations, 9 spraying variations and 12 spraying variations. From the results of this study, the highest value obtained in the electrical conductivity test was found in specimen 1 with 6 spraying variations with a value of 23.80 S/cm and in the bending strength test, the three specimens with 6, 9 and 12 spraying variations had exceeded the DOE standard value with a value of 25 N/mm2 where the highest bending strength value obtained in the bending strength test was found in specimen 1 with a bending strength value of 243.30 N/mm2.
