Abstract
This research aims to analyze the effect of pressure and temperature of steam entering the superheater on boiler performance at the Tenayan Raya Steam Power Plant, Pekanbaru, Riau. The boiler used is a coal-fired water tube boiler with a capacity of 430 tons/hour. This research varied the pressure and temperature of the superheater steam in three conditions: 71.8 bar/534°C, 76.3 bar/535°C, and 83 bar/536°C. The research results show that increasing the pressure and temperature of the superheater steam significantly increases boiler efficiency. At a pressure of 71.8 bar and a temperature of 534°C, the efficiency was recorded at 80%, while at a pressure of 76.3 bar and a temperature of 535°C, the efficiency increased to 88.8%. At the highest pressure, namely 83 bar and temperature 536°C, the boiler efficiency reaches 89.7%. The increase in efficiency is caused by increasing steam enthalpy which increases heat energy to drive the turbine optimally. However, the efficiency gain slows at high pressures as the system approaches the maximum efficiency limit. This research provides important insights into optimizing boiler operating pressure and temperature to achieve maximum efficiency, as well as the importance of routine maintenance of the superheater system to maintain optimal performance.
