Abstract

Field X is a field located in the Central Sumatra Basin that has been in production since 1984. Aquifers have a vital role in the reservoir fluid driving mechanism that affects oil and gas production. This study aims to analyze the sensitivity uncertainty of aquifer characteristics to the history matching process in Field X using IPM MBAL software for material balance analysis and PETREL for geological modeling and reservoir fluid dynamics simulation. The research method includes static and dynamic data collection, and analysis of aquifer parameters using the Carter-Tracy model. The parameters tested include permeability, external radius, thickness, angle of influence, and direction. Through simulation of various scenarios of aquifer parameters, the study observed their impact on the fit of the model with historical production data. Results show that permeability parameter has the most significant influence on history matching, followed by thickness, angle of influence, external radius, and direction. The sensitivity of the permeability parameter has a direct impact on the aquifer strength, which significantly affects the model's match with actual production data. This research contributes to improving the accuracy of reservoir modeling by considering the uncertainty of the Carter-Tracy model aquifer characteristics, so that it can be the basis for decision making for the X Field development operation strategy.
