Abstract
Mud circulation is an important factor during the drilling process. The problem that continues to occur during drilling operations is Filtration loss. To overcome this problem, one method used is to add the additive Carboxy Methyl Cellulose (CMC). In this study, the CMC used in this final project utilizes natural materials, namely acacia sawdust. Because Acacia Sawdust (SKA) is an organic waste that is underutilized in the wood processing industry, especially the sawmill industry and minimizing sawdust waste. Making CMC SKA by Delignification, Bleaching, Alkali, Mercerization, Neutralization, and sieve. After that, the purity of the CMC was tested using FTIR (Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy) and the Laboratory. Then mixed with mud and tested for plastic viscosity, yield point, gel strength, filtrate volume, and Mud Cake with a CMC mass of 2, 3, 4 grams. The test results show that CMS SKA can be an alternative to CMC based on the tests that have been carried out, the results of mud rheology with CMC SKA obtained a density of 8.6 - 8.7 ppg, a yield point with a mass of 2 gr - 4 gr of 10 -13 lb / 100ft2, plastic viscosity with a mass of 2 gr - 4 gr of 9 - 12 cp, gel strength with a mass of 2 gr - 4 gr of 0.5 ° - 0.6 °, filtrate volume of 11.7 - 10.5 ml, and Mud Cake 0.34 - 0.58 mm. For the results of the purity test of CMC SKA, the results were 99.73%, meaning that CMC is said to be pure. The Rheology results produced from CMC SKA and CMC IND were then analyzed statistically using the Anova test to see the differences in the rheology effects of the two CMCs on Filtration loss, the Anova (analysis of variance) test, the results obtained based on the ANOVA test showed that CMC SKA had a greater effect on the rheology of drilling mud compared to CMC Industry.
