Abstract
The sand problem is one of the main challenges in the oil and gas industry in the world. Sand causes loss of production and damage to well equipment. The problem of sand in wells can be prevented or overcome. In the world of oil, dealing with sand problems is called sand control. Overcoming sand is carried out so that wells that have stopped producing due to sand can return to producing as they should. The sand that occurs in wells XY26, XY53 and XY84 must be addressed. The sand in the three wells occurred because the screen liner that had been installed at the start of production was no longer able to hold the sand. Handling sand in the three wells was carried out by replacing the previous screen liner used and adding gravel pack as an additional method for sand control. The method used to determine the size of the liner and gravel is the Schwartz method, where according to Schwartz the size of the oil. Determining the size of the liner and gravel is based on the uniformity of the sand grains produced. Where the uniformity of sand grains from the three wells is smaller than 3, which shows that the sand has a uniform sorting. According to Schwartz, if the sand sorting is uniform, the determination of gravel and screen is based on 6×d10 sand production where the results of the 6×d10 calculation for the three wells are 0.0156 in well XY26, 0.0144 in well XY53 and 0.0126 in well XY84. The liner used after sand control is a 0.010 inch screen liner with gravel size 30/50 US Mesh. After sand control was carried out on the well, the well which previously stopped producing due to sand problems, returned to producing oil.
