Abstract

Signs of Child Violence in My First Client (Semiotic Analysis of Ferdinand De Saussure) Diva Giovanni 199110229 In this study, researchers raised the film My First Client which is the work of director Jang Gyu Sang released in May 2019 with the drama and law genres. This film tells the story of a stepmother who has the heart to commit acts of violence against her child until one child dies and then forces the other stepchildren to confess as the perpetrators of the murder. This study aims to find out how the signs of violence on children in the film My First Client according to Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic approach. This study uses qualitative methods and uses the semiotic analysis technique of Ferdinand de Saussure to see the signs that appear in this film as a signified and signifier that are displayed in several scene cuts in the film. Based on the results of research conducted by researchers in every scene in this film, researchers found two signs of violence in children, namely physical violence and verbal violence. Physical violence can be seen in acts of choking, hitting, slapping, pulling hair, and kicking. Then, verbal violence emerged through the harsh words and threats uttered by Ji Sook to her child.
