Abstract
The meandering river technique refers to rivers with winding paths, resembling the letter "S", which continuously evolve due to the shifting of water flow and erosion activities. Erosion occurs on the bends of the river, while sediment deposition happens in other areas, forming river shoals. Most rivers that were initially straight will develop bends over time, accompanied by meander formation. One of the issues that arise is the damage to riverbanks due to erosion caused by floods and river currents, which can reduce the stability of the banks. This study was conducted on a river located on Jalan Belimbing, Rimba Sekampung Village, Dumai Barat District, Dumai City, Riau Province, where the riverbank frequently experiences landslides due to erosion and unstable soil conditions. The aim of this study is to assess the safety factor of the existing slope, both with and without reinforcement using sheet piles. The analysis was carried out using the FELLENIUS method manually and the Finite Element Method (FEM) with PLAXIS 2023 software.` The analysis results show that the safety factor of the existing slope at sondir point 01 without reinforcement is 1.453, which is still in a stable but cautious condition (1.453 < 1.5). After reinforcement, the safety factor decreases to 1.263, with a soil consolidation of 3.237 meters. At sondir point 02, without reinforcement, the safety factor is 1.358, which is also in a stable but cautious condition (1.358 < 1.5). After reinforcement, the safety factor increases to 1.496 with a consolidation of 7.279 meters. This difference in safety factors at the two points can be attributed to the soil layers and the excavation at the work site, followed by a substantial backfill, which led to the variation in the safety factors. At sondir point 01, the safety factor decreased after reinforcement, while at sondir point 02, it increased. Although the slope condition is relatively stable, there is a potential risk of landslides in the event of external changes, such as heavy rainfall or earthquakes. Therefore, it can be concluded that the slope is not experiencing failure or collapse but requires attention to external conditions that could affect its stability.
