Abstract

Various Japanese pop-cultures such as anime, manga, games, J-music, dorama, and cosplay which are the characteristics of Japan, have developed throughout the world. The @JPFBASE autobase account is a media dedicated to Japanese pop- culture enthusiast to share opinions, information, and discuss matters related to Japanese pop-culture. This research was conducted to see how a fan of Japanese pop-culture utilize the autobase feature on Twitter as a communication tools. This study is conducted by using a descriptive qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. In determining research informants, the snowball sampling technique was used which consisted of 5 followers of the @JPFBASE account. The results of this study indicates that Japanese pop-culture enthusiast use the @JPFBASE account 1) as a tool of information, the information received is in the form of Japanese pop culture products and Japanese culture, 2) as a tool of establishing relationships, the auto menfess feature can be used by followers to reach a large number of audience with the same interest 3) an educational tool, where followers use it to sharpen their skills in Japanese, and 4) an entertainment facility, followers often post witty things such as memes, jokes, or edits that are deliberately made to entertain. In its utilization, there are supporting and inhibiting factors. For the supporting factors, namely 1) the @JPFBASE account is a general and publicly-open account for the japanese pop culture enthusiast to openly discuss about various matters relating to their interest, while for the inhibiting factors, namely 1) followers that has not been followed back yet by the @JPFBASE account, makes it difficult for prospective senders to reach people because they are unable to send menfess, and 2) on the opposite, the followers that has been followed back by the @JPFBASE and actively send the menfess tend to make the previous menfess unreachable due to a bunch of uploaded menfess.
