Abstract

Films continue to develop along with the times, especially the younger generation, just films, nowadays they have spread to various story elements such as acts of violence, free sex, and horror and even describe the rituals of a satanic cult or scientific cult which directly indoctrinate the audience's mind to believe in such things like that. One of them is the film Ready or Not in 2019 with the horror and thriller genre. This study aims to analyze and explain the meaning of the characters and tools of violence in Ready or Not using Rolland Barthes' semiotic approach. Rolland Barthes's semiotic approach is an approach with the concept of denotative meaning in the form of explanations that are visible in scenes with the five and connotative meanings related to ideology and myths. It shows codes of culture and ideology in life. This method is a qualitative method. The results of this study show that the weapons used are old weapons such as arrows, pistols, axes, kettles and knives which have lost their function by the players and there is violence in this film with a technique that shows sadism.
