Abstract

Advances in technology are developing rapidly, especially television, causing media workers to be led to work hard in producing qualified and good quality program broadcasts. When it comes to the news program production process, the editor is not only the final executor of the news but plays an important role in the success of the broadcast. The editor has the responsibility for editing the program, namely collecting, selecting, cutting, connecting the shooting pictures and sequencing or arranging the backsound music and sound effects as well as images and sound based on news scripts from producers or reporters. This study involved 3 informants, namely the news coordinator, cameramen/journalists and editors. This research method uses a qualitative method which aims to find out how the role of the editor is in the production process of the Riau Today broadcast program at LPP TVRI Riau station. It can be seen that the role of the editor in the production process goes through three stages or processes, namely pre-production, production and post-production. In the pre-production stage, the editor plays the role of image and visual withdrawal via email receiving news and cutting images. At the production stage, the editor's role is to carry out visual transfers from the camera to the editor's computer. And in the final stage, namely the post-production stage, in this stage the editor performs the process of cutting, merging, and matching images with audio so that the resulting shows are easily understood by the audience.
