Abstract

In reservoirs, oil containing paraffin components is very difficult to produce, especially when temperature changes occur in the reservoir which causes the oil to solidify or freeze. This paraffin component causes high viscosity which can cause the flow rate of petroleum production to decrease. One way to reduce the viscosity value is by using the Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery (MEOR) method. The bacteria used are Bacillus Sp and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa which are thermophilic types of bacteria and have the ability to break down long carbon chains. This research aims to degrade paraffin in bewku oil by analyzing the incubation period, viscosity and FTIR of samples that have been treated by both bacteria. This research uses an experimental method which was tested on 3 different samples. For sample 1, it describes frozen oil without a mixture of bacteria. Sample 2 is a mixture of frozen oil and Bacillus Sp bacteria. Sample 3 is a mixture of frozen oil and Pseudomonas Aeruginoasa. This research consists of 3 processes, namely the incubation process, viscosity testing, and FTIR testing. Incubation is a process where the sample will be stored in a Water Bath at a temperature of 600C, 750C, 900C for 9 days. Next, viscosity testing uses a Redwood Viscometer which is tested at temperatures of 600C, 750C, 900C. Finally, FTIR testing was carried out at the FMIPA laboratory at Riau University. From this research, the results showed that Bacillus Sp bacteria with a viscosity value of 75.34 cp were more effective than Pseudomonas Aeruginosa with a viscosity value of 76.13 cp.
