Abstract
During the production process, oil, water and gas sometimes come under conditions that cause emulsions to occur. One way of forming an emulsion is due to the presence of asphaltene and resin (natural surfactants) in crude oil which causes the emulsion to tend to become stable and difficult to demulsify. The aim of this research is to test and analyze the physical properties of three different types of crude oil based on (°API, specific gravity, viscosity, resin and asphaltene and see the effect of asphaltene and resin content on the results of Oil In Water (O/W) demulsification using Graphene Oxide Nanosheets (GONs). The manufacture of GONs was carried out using the Liquid Phase Exfoliation (LPE) method and characterization tests using UV-Vis, FTIR, and -Vis is at ?=227 nm, and the XRD results show that the angle 2? = ~11.5° which means the GONs formed are crystalline. The synthetic emulsion provided from three different types of crude oil was tested for its physical and chemical properties in the form of °API, SG, Viscosity, Asphaltene and resin. The °API, SG, Viscosity and resin values for the three types of crude oil are almost the same. Meanwhile, the asphaltene value for sample 1 is very high compared to samples 2 and 3. From the test it was obtained that the asphaltene value for sample 1 was 2, 7%, compared to sample 2 of 1.5%, and sample 3 of 0.23%. The results of demulsification using 0.1 gr GONs for the three emulsions showed that the highest demulsification efficiency was in sample 3, namely 84% compared to sample 2 = 82% and sample 3 = 74%. The surface tension test results showed that sample 3 had the highest IFT value = 57 dyne/cm, compared to sample 2 = 52 dyne/cm and sample 3 = 49 dyne/cm. From these results it can be concluded that the less asphaltene content, the greater the demulsification efficiency and the greater the demulsification efficiency, the greater the surface tension value.
