Abstract
Produced water is liquid waste that is produced during petroleum exploration activities. This waste contains organic and inorganic materials which have the potential to become B3 waste (Toxic and Hazardous Materials) which have a big impact on the environment and humans. Produced water waste also contains oil and fat, if the produced water is not filtered and not treated properly, the produced water waste can damage the surrounding natural environment if it is disposed of carelessly, so it is very necessary to filtrate/filter the produced water waste. In the management of produced water waste, the oil removal filter functions as the final filtering media, and the filter media in this research is walnut shell. Researchers chose walnut shell because walnut shell has a hard, resistant texture and is suitable as an adsorbent medium. The aim of this research is to determine the optimal thickness for the absorption capacity of walnut shell filter media, as well as to determine and compare better filter results between filters with walnut shell powder thicknesses of 5 cm, 10 cm and 15 cm. After the produced water is filtered, the next method is testing the oil content, turbidity, TDS and pH. Based on research that has been carried out, the content of produced waste water before filtration is oil content 14 ppm, TDS 1582 ppm, turbidity 98.2 NTU, and pH 5.28 and after the filtration process using walnut shell media with a thickness of 5 cm, the content results are obtained. The oil content is 4 ppm, TDS 1385 ppm, turbidity 68.2 NTU, and pH 5.43. After that, the filtration process on walnut shell media with a thickness of 10 cm resulted in an oil content of 4 ppm, TDS 1176 ppm, turbidity 50,7 NTU, and pH 6,34, and finally the filtration process on walnut shell media with a thickness of 15 cm resulted in oil content of 3 ppm, TDS 908 ppm, turbidity 41,5 NTU, and pH 6,96. The results obtained prove that filtration using walnut shell media at a thickness of 15 cm is more optimal and more effective than thicknesses of 5 cm and 10 cm.
