Abstract
The oil and gas industry spends billions of dollars on each drilling campaign. With rig costs estimated at 37% or USD 92.5 billion, any effort to reduce nonproductive time has a direct impact on company and contractor profits. The performance of a good drilling operation stage is measured by having low nonproductive time (NPT). This research is conducted using Pareto diagrams to analyze each type of NPT which is the main root cause of problems during drilling activities, compare age factors that have a significant influence on NPT and analyze the economic losses caused by NPT. Non-productive time (NPT) is the time when no drilling operations occur. This research was conducted by classifying the types of activities to identify the impact of the greatest contribution, calculating rig performance, analyzing losses and determining mitigation based on the analysis of activities included in NPT on both rig wells. The results of this study obtained rig well X uncontrollable classification 448 hours, repair rig 285 hours and hole problem classification 5 hours. On rig well Y uncontrollable classification 657 hours, repair rig 121 hours and hole problem 157 hours. The performance of rig well X is 90% and rig well Y, where rig well X is still within the PHR tolerance limit of 10%. The hypothesis is rejected because that rig well Y has a high enough NPT of 916 hours compared to rig well X which has 730 hours because it turns out that age does not have a significant effect on NPT. Losses on rig well X are around 520 thousand dollars, and on rig well Y around 418 thousand dollars. Mitigation of the uncontrollable classification is that the rig contractor carries out an inspection/checklist before use, adding gravel for access roads that are classified as severe, adding matting board or durabase around the wellpad, applying soil stabilizer around the wellpad, preparing a work plan schedule by carrying out calculations or predicting the rainy season. Rig repairs for types of detailed circulation system problems include monitoring and carrying out preventive maintenance on the rig, providing critical spare parts and minimum consumption, increasing crew competency in maintaining rig problems. The hole problem is maintaining the appropriate mud weight, controlling drilling parameters, optimizing penetration rate (ROP), filtering so that the mud cake is not too thick, adding wellbore strengthening additives.
