Abstract
Cementing plays a crucial role in protecting the casing from various problems and isolating the hydrocarbons in the productive zone layer. Failure in cementing can result in significant losses, both in terms of material, cost, and time. This research aims to test the quality of the combination of coconut shell activated charcoal and dolomite on filtration loss, free water, and compressive strength to be applied in the petroleum industry. The results showed that after the addition of additives, there was a significant decrease in the filtration loss value, while the free water value experienced variations in increase and decrease. In addition, the compressive strength values also showed variations in increase and decrease. The optimum amount of additives required in drilling cement to meet API standards is to add coconut shell activated charcoal powder and dolomite powder in a 1:1 ratio with a concentration of 4% BWOC. The combination of coconut shell activated charcoal powder and dolomite powder with ratios of 1:0, 0:1, 1:1, 2:1, and 1:2, with concentrations below 8% BWOC, proved to be able to reduce the value of filtration loss and free water, while increasing the compressive strength value of drilling cement in accordance with the standards set by API (American Petroleum Institute).
