Abstract

Before being discharged into the environment and injected, formation water produced with oil and gas must be treated first, to prevent environmental pollution from waste water and injection problems. In this research, graphene oxide is used which is made from synthesized graphite powder. Graphene oxide has the potential to absorb ions that are not good for produced water. To improve the quality of produced water processing results using a filtration media combined with nano-graphene oxide. Graphene oxide will be tested for FTIR and UV-Vis. FTIR characterization shows that the chemical bonds are C=C, O-H and C-H. The presence of these three chemical bonds proves that the result of the synthesis of graphite powder has become graphene oxide at a frequency of 1634.74 cm-1. UV-Vis characterization shows a peak at 227 nm. Tests were carried out using the filtration method by flowing samples of produced water using gravity flow through 5 mini-scale filter tubes containing gravel, sand, carbon and graphene oxide media. The results obtained in this research were that the saturated volume of the filter media with turbidity testing was 14.4 liters with a test result of 25.91 NTU. Produced water samples after treatment experienced a decrease in laboratory tests with sample parameters before treatment pH 10.2, TDS 2,810 ppm, turbidity 35 NTU, DHL 32.51 dS/m, oil and grease 15 mg/l, iron Fe 1.07 mg/ l, CaCO3 hardness 802.72 mg/l, magnesium 31.86 mg/l, SO4 sulfate 29 mg/l, salinity 5,867 Psu. After treatment at a volume of 0.6 liters the test results decreased to pH 7.7, TDS 102 ppm, turbidity 4.59 NTU, DHL 24.81 dS/m, oil and grease 2.2 mg/l, iron Fe 0.215 mg/l , CaCO3 hardness 451.8 mg/l, magnesium 15.83 mg/l, SO4 sulfate 6.72 mg/l, salinity 0.185 Psu. At a saturated volume of 8.4 liters the results increased to pH 7.7, TDS 111 ppm, turbidity 4.77 NTU, DHL 25.02 dS/m, oil and grease 2.3 mg/l, iron Fe 0.392 mg/l , CaCO3 hardness 453.2 mg/l, magnesium 15.89 mg/l, SO4 sulfate 7.89 mg/l, salinity 0.219 Psu.
