Abstract

Lost Circulation is the event of partial or complete loss of drilling fluid that enters the formation during drilling. The entry of drilling mud into the formation can be caused naturally, by the type and pressure of the formation penetrated by the drill bit. Mechanically caused by errors in drilling operations. Countermeasures are being taken to overcome mud loss using LCM and calcium carbonate (CaCO3). Well X drilling is perpendicular drilling or vertical drilling. The lithology of this formation is composed of sandstone and limestone or what are called sandstone and claystone. In well SPOT Mixing/LCM mixing of 15 bbls or 100 ppb, 60 ppb CaCO3-C, 30 ppb CaCO3-M and 10 ppb CaCO3-F was carried out. When the flow check was carried out there was still lost circulation at a depth of 448 ft with a static loss of 0.28 bpm. When observed for 1 hour and carried out a flow check again, lost circulation still occurred with a static loss of 0.2 bpm. When reaching a depth of 703 ft, lost circulation occurs again, where static loss is 0.2 bpm and dynamic loss is 0.8 – 1.1 bpm. Overall, the handling of the lost circulation problem carried out at well X in field Y was successfully handled, so it was decided to continue drilling activities.
