Abstract
The quality of cement really depends on the strength of the cement, the harder the cement, the better the quality of the cement. Cement strength can be increased by adding additives that can increase cement strength but this method can increase cementing costs. One alternative that we can use to increase the strength of cement is to use organic additives, one of which is palm oil burning boiler ash. The large amount of palm oil production in Indonesia, especially in Riau Province, has the potential to produce a lot of palm oil boiler ash. The silica (SiO2) content in palm oil boiler ash can function as a pozzolan which is expected to increase the strength of cement so that the cost of purchasing additives to increase cement strength can be reduced. The use of palm oil boiler ash can also reduce the impact of environmental pollution caused by lack of management of palm oil boiler ash waste. This research tested the strength and thickening time by adding palm oil boiler ash additive with varying concentrations of 6%, 7.5%, 8%, 8.5% and 9%. The By Weight Of Cement (BWOC) used was filtered using 200 mesh and dried using oven at 105oC for ±2 hours. The cement suspension is made by mixing water, bentonite, polypropylene glycol and palm oil boiler ash using a mixer, then pouring it into a mold and leaving it in a water bath. The residence was carried out for 24 hours at a temperature of 90oC. Compressive strength and shear bond strength tests are used using hydraulic pressure. To test the thickenig time, the suspension was poured onto the lid and tested on an Atmospheric Consistometer with a temperature of 90 oC, then the time was recorded at 70 UC. Based on research, it was found that the strength of cement increased by adding boiler ash. The composition of palm oil boiler ash which produces optimal compressive strength and shear bond strength values is obtained by adding 7.5% and when the addition is continued the cement strength will decrease. The compressive strength values obtained with the 7.5% addition composition were 1710,479 psi and 254,141 psi. And the thickenig time value continues to increase for each composition, namely 128 minutes, 137 minutes, 139 minutes, 141 minutes, 146 minutes and 152 minutes.
